CourseForum Releases ProjectForum 5.2 In-House Wiki Software, Welcomes JotSpot Users
Released 11/6/2006.
GUELPH, Ont. - CourseForum Technologies is pleased to announce
the immediate availability of ProjectForum 5.2, its
professional and easy-to-use wiki collaboration software.
In light of Google's acquisition of wiki vendor JotSpot and
discontinuation of its non-hosted products, CourseForum is also
inviting JotSpot users to take a closer look at ProjectForum.
ProjectForum is a commercially supported, high quality wiki software
product that can be run inside the firewall. It features full version
control, group project support, multiple authentication options, image
and file management, page templates, SSL, full branding support, multiple
forums, and much more. Unlike other wiki tools, ProjectForum is affordable,
easy to set up, easy to learn, and easy to use, for any workgroup.
The highlight of version 5.2 is a greatly enhanced editing page.
It now features a quick preview capability, a quick access formatting
toolbar, a resizable editing area, and a comprehensive new help facility.
Other changes in this release help to simplify custom theming, and address
a number of smaller bugs.
JotSpot's acquisition and product changes unfortunately reduces even further the
choices available for those who want to run a wiki in-house, and especially not
have to fight with a lot of infrastructure, complicated open source software, or
be forced to purchase special purpose hardware to do so. While running a hosted wiki
is a good choice for many people, it's not for everyone.
ProjectForum has from the beginning delivered a commercial quality wiki experience
to those who prefer to keep their important data in-house, behind the firewall.
ProjectForum is not an after-the-fact port of a hosted version; amazingly quick and easy,
dependency-free installation and setup have been integral from the start.
ProjectForum offers a range of licensing options, starting from US$49, as well
as a free version. Anyone can have it running in minutes, on Windows, Mac OS X
or Linux. ProjectForum also offers a hosted version for customers who want
to keep their options open to migrate in-house at a later date.
